Vietnam: Regulations drivers must comply with when stopping or parking on the road

Recently, the Ministry of Public Security has submitted the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety to the National Assembly of Vietnam for consideration.

According to the Draft Law on ensuring road traffic order and safety of Vietnam, when stopping or parking vehicles on roads, vehicle operators must comply with the following regulations:

- There is a signal to warn other vehicle drivers when entering a parking or stopping position;

- Allow the vehicle to stop and park at a place with a wide curb or a piece of land outside the driveway; in case the roadside is narrow or there is no curb, the vehicle must stop and park close to the right edge of the road in its direction;

- Where on the road where the vehicle has been built or where the vehicle is to be stopped or parked, the vehicle must be stopped or parked at such location;

- After parking, leave the vehicle only when safety measures have been taken; if parking occupies part of the roadway or is forced to park at a place where parking is not allowed, a danger sign must be immediately placed behind the vehicle or signaled by an emergency light;

- Do not open the car door, leave the car door open or step out of the car without ensuring safe conditions;

- When stopping the vehicle, do not turn off the engine and do not leave the driving position;

- Vehicles parked on ramps must be wheeled and steered toward the curb.

Concurrently, unless otherwise permitted by traffic organizations, vehicle operators may not stop or park their vehicles at the following locations:

- On the left side of a one-way street;

- On a curve or near the top of a slope where visibility is obscured;

- On the bridge, under the overpass;

- Parallel to another vehicle that is stopped or parked;

- On the pedestrian crossing;

- At the intersection and within 05 meters from the edge of the intersection;

- Bus stops;

- In front of the gate and within 05 meters on both sides of the gate of the headquarters of the agency or organization, there is a road for cars to come in and out;

- Where the road section is wide enough for only one motor vehicle lane;

- Within the safety range of the railway;

- Obscuring road signs and traffic lights.
