Below is the content of the Program for the prevention and control of child accidents and injuries in Vietnam for the period of 2021 – 2030 approved by the Prime Minister of Vietnam.
The Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam approved the Program for the prevention and control of child accidents and injuries in Vietnam for the period 2021-2030 under Decision 1248/QD-TTg in 2021.
Overall Objective:
To control and mitigate the situation of child accidents and injuries, focusing on drowning and traffic accidents, to ensure the lives and health of children and the happiness of families and society.
Specific Objectives:
Objective 1: Reduce the rate of accidents, injuries, and deaths caused by accidents and injuries among children:
- Reduce the rate of children suffering from accidents and injuries to 550 per 100,000 children by 2025 and 500 per 100,000 children by 2030.
- Reduce the rate of child deaths due to accidents and injuries to 16 per 100,000 children by 2025 and 15 per 100,000 children by 2030.
- Annually decrease 5 - 10% of the number of children killed and injured in road traffic accidents.
- Reduce the number of children drowning deaths by 10% by 2025 and 20% by 2030.
- 7,000,000 homes of families with children meet the Safe House criteria by 2025 and 8,000,000 by 2030; 12,000 schools meet the Safe School standards by 2025 and 15,000 by 2030; 400 communes, wards, commune-level towns meet the Safe Community standards for prevention of child accidents and injuries by 2025 and 500 by 2030.
Objective 2: Communication on child accident and injury prevention for government levels, communities, parents, caregivers, and children.
- 90% of children, parents, and caregivers are provided with knowledge and skills to prevent child accidents and injuries by 2025 and 95% by 2030.
- 90% of children aged 6 to under 16 know road traffic safety regulations by 2025 and 95% by 2030.
- 60% of children aged 6 to under 16 know water safety skills by 2025 and 70% by 2030; 50% know how to swim safely by 2025 and 60% by 2030.
- 90% of children wear life jackets while traveling on inland waterway means where the use of life jackets is compulsory by 2025 and 95% by 2030.
Objective 3: Training and refresher courses on child accident and injury prevention for officials at all levels, sectors, and relevant associations.
- 100% of officials and public employees at the provincial and district levels working on child protection, care, and education in relevant sectors and associations receive training on child accident and injury prevention knowledge and skills.
- 70% of commune-level officials, public employees, teachers, collaborators working on child protection, care, and education in relevant sectors and associations, educational establishments, child care facilities, child protection service providers receive training on child accident and injury prevention knowledge and skills by 2025 and 90% by 2030.
- 70% of village, hamlet, and school health staff to know initial first aid techniques for children with accidents and injuries by 2025 and 100% by 2030.
- 100% of provinces and centrally governed cities implement the collection of information and data on child accidents and injuries.
- Provinces and centrally governed cities pilot and expand programs for guiding, advising, and educating skills for child accident and injury prevention, water safety for children, and teach safe swimming for children.
