Recently, the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam issued Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP regarding the technical ranking for pilots and crew members in the Vietnam People's Army Force.
Vietnam: Completion of at least 450 flying hours is required to be eligible for Rank 3 multirole combat aircraft pilot (Illustrative image)
Article 7 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP specifies the standards for Rank 3 military jet aircraft pilot in Vietnam as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a military jet aircraft pilot without a rank;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved to fly various technical flight maneuvers, navigation, and combat applications by the aircraft’s characteristics as per the combat training curriculum and flight regulations issued by the competent authority, meeting the requirements for combat readiness, under simple and complex meteorological day conditions (or long-range maritime flights).
- Flying hours standards:
+ The total accumulated flying hours for fighter and bomber pilots must be ≥ 400 hours, for multirole combat aircraft pilots must be ≥ 450 hours;
+ The accumulated flying hours on the current aircraft type for type-transition pilots must be ≥ 50 hours.
Moreover, Article 8 of Circular 120/2020/TT-BQP also stipulates the standards for Rank 2 military jet aircraft pilot in Vietnam as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a Rank 3 military jet aircraft pilot;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved in accordance with point b, clause 1, Article 7 of this Circular under simple meteorological day conditions, complex meteorological day conditions (or long-range maritime flights), and simple meteorological night conditions.
- Flying hours standards:
+ The total accumulated flying hours for fighter and bomber pilots must be ≥ 550 hours, for multirole combat aircraft pilots must be ≥ 650 hours;
+ The accumulated flying hours on the current aircraft type for type-transition pilots must be ≥ 80 hours.
Additionally, the standards for Rank 1 military jet aircraft pilot in Vietnamare as follows:
- Qualifications in piloting technique, navigation, and task performance capability:
+ Being a Rank 2 military jet aircraft pilot;
+ Having undergone tests and been approved in accordance with point b, clause 1, Article 7 of this Circular under simple meteorological day conditions, complex meteorological day conditions (or long-range maritime flights), simple meteorological night conditions, and complex meteorological night conditions (or night maritime flights).
- Flying hours standards:
+ The total accumulated flying hours for fighter and bomber pilots must be ≥ 750 hours, for multirole combat aircraft pilots must be ≥ 850 hours;
+ The accumulated flying hours on the current aircraft type for type-transition pilots must be ≥ 120 hours.
