Vietnam: 04 cases exempted from the foreign language test in master's degree admission

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDĐT on the Regulation of Master’s Degree Training.

The Regulation on Training for Master’s Degree Level promulgated together with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam stipulates that candidates with foreign language proficiency meeting the requirements of the foreign language exam at the training institution and falling into one of the following cases are exempted from the foreign language exam in master’s degree admission:

  1. Holding a full-time undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral degree obtained abroad, recognized by the competent authority according to current regulations;
  2. Holding an undergraduate degree from an advanced program according to the Scheme of the Ministry of Education and Training on training advanced programs at some universities in Vietnam or an engineer degree of high quality (PFIEV) recognized by the Engineering Titles Commission (CTI, France), with a joint degree awarded by a foreign partner;
  3. Holding an undergraduate degree in a foreign language major;
  4. Holding a foreign language proficiency certificate as stipulated at Point b, Clause 2, Article 27 or equivalent (Appendix II) within 2 years from the date of issuance to the date of exam registration, issued by an institution permitted or recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training. The head of the training institution must verify and be responsible for the authenticity of the foreign language certificate before recognizing its equivalence according to Appendix II.
