Trucks, also known as trucks, are specialized cars used to transport goods. Trucks have many different sizes, designs, and loads, so the law also divides many classes of driving licenses according to the truck's load according to the provisions of Article 16 of Circular 12/2017/TT-BGTVT.
- B1 class (automatic transmission) issued to persons who do not practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
+ Automatic transmission 9-seat cars including driver seat;
+ Trucks, including special trucks (automatic transmission) with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
+ Cars intended for the disabled.
- B1 class licenses issued to persons who do not practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
+ 9-seat cars including driver seat;
+ Trucks, including special trucks with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
+ Tractors hauling a trailer with design loading capacity less than 3,500 kg.
- B2 class licenses issued to persons who practice as a driver for controlling following types of cars:
+ Special cars with design loading capacity less than 3.500 kg;
+ Cars intended for B1 class.
- C class licenses issued to drivers controlling following types of cars:
+ Trucks, including special trucks with design loading capacity from 3.500 kg and over;
+ Tractors hauling a trailer with design loading capacity from 3,500 kg and over;
+ Cars intended for B1 and B2 classes.
Usually, when operating trucks, drivers will choose C class licenses because it can meet all common types of trucks today.
Pursuant to Article 58 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008, regulations on conditions for drivers of vehicles to join in traffic in Vietnam are as follows:
- Drivers of vehicles to join in traffic must be of the age and in good health as prescribed in Article 60 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008, and proper driver licenses for the types of vehicle they are permitted to operate, which are granted by competent state agencies.
Learner drivers, when joining in traffic, shall practice driving on driving practice vehicles and have their driving supported by driving instructors.
- When operating a vehicle, the driver shall carry the following papers:
+ Vehicle registration paper;
+ Driver license, for motor vehicle operators defined in Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008;
+ Technical safety and environmental protection inspection certificate, for motor vehicles prescribed in Article 55 of this Law;
+ Motor vehicle owner civil liability insurance certificate.
In addition, Article 60 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008 has regulations on the age and health of drivers.
- The driver age is prescribed as follows:
+ Persons aged full 16 years or older may drive mopeds with a cylinder capacity of under 50 cm3;
+ Persons aged full 18 years or older may drive motorcycles, three-wheeled motor vehicles with a cylinder capacity of 50 cm3 or higher and vehicles with similar structure; trucks, tractors with a mass of under 3,500 kg; passenger cars of up to 9 seats;
+ Persons aged full 21 years or older may drive trucks, tractors with a mass of 3,500 kg or more; category-B2 vehicles pulling trailers (FB2);
+ Persons aged full 24 years or older may drive passenger cars of between 10 and 30 seals; category-C vehicles pulling trailers or semi-trailers (FC);
+ Persons aged full 27 years or older may drive passenger cars of over 30 seals; category-D vehicles pulling trailers (FD);
+ The maximum age of drivers of 30 seat-plus passenger cars is 50 for women and 55 for men.
- Drivers must be physically fit for the types and utilities of vehicles they drive. The Minister of Health shall assume the prime responsibility for, and coordinate with the Minister of Transport in, prescribing health standards for drivers, periodical health checks for automobile drivers, and medical establishments providing such health checks.
