1. Candidates for the Olympic team selection exam in Vietnam

According to Clause 2, Article 4, Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT stipulates candidates for the Olympic team selection exam as follows:

Students are studying in high school and fall into one of the following categories:

- Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training from among students who won prizes in the national exam for excellent students in the same school year according to the principle of high to low based on test scores, ensuring that the number of students selected for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed to be selected for the national team participating in the international Olympic competition in that subject:

- Did not participate in the national exam to select excellent students in the same school year, but was a member of the national team participating in the regional Olympic competition; member of the national team participating in the international Olympic competition in the immediately preceding school year.

2. What are the regulations on selection of students for the Olympic teams in Vietnam?

The selection of students for the Olympic teams is regulated as follows:

- After completing the scoring of the Olympic team selection exam, arrange the unpaired test papers in order of test scores from high to low to select candidates for national teams participating in regional and international Olympics (for subjects that do not have teams participating in regional Olympics) ensuring that the number of selected candidates is equal to the number of members of each team.

- Students in the national team participating in international Olympic competitions in subjects with organized regional Olympic teams are selected from among students who participated in regional Olympic competitions in the same year, according to the following principles:

+ Rank the students with their total scores from the Olympic team selection exam and the regional Olympic exam (scores from the two exams are converted to the same scale) from high to low to select, and ensure that the number of selected students is equal to the number of members of the national team participating in the international Olympic competition;

+ In case of having to choose between students whose total scores in both exams are equal, the student with the higher score in the regional Olympic exam will be selected; In case of having to choose between students with equal test scores in the regional Olympic exam, the Ministry of Education and Training will organize for those students to take a test for selection.

- The Director of the Department of Quality Management is responsible for submitting to the Minister of Education and Training for approval the list of students of national teams participating in international and regional Olympic competitions.

3. Exam subject, exam content, exam format, and time to take the exam to select the Olympic team in Vietnam

- Exam subjects: For the Olympic team selection exam, exams are held in the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Informatics.

- Exam content: Olympic team selection exam, exam content to access international and regional Olympics.

- Exam format and exam time:

Olympic team selection exam: There are two exam sessions for each subject; Particularly, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects have an additional practice exam; The exam time for Computer Science is 300 minutes/test, Mathematics is 270 minutes/test, and the remaining subjects are 240 minutes/test. The practice exam time for the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology is 180 minutes.
