Admission Examination for Master's Degree Program Includes 03 Subjects

May 15, 2014, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT on the Regulations of Master's Degree Training.

The Regulation on Master's Degree Training attached to Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT stipulates that the master's degree entrance examination includes 3 subjects, determined by the head of the training institution. Specifically:

  1. The foreign language subject and the level of foreign language proficiency of the applicant for each sector, training major (including the second foreign language for those applying for a foreign language major) are determined based on the requirements of the master's degree training program and the foreign language proficiency requirements of the students before the thesis defense is regulated;
  2. Two other subjects, including one core subject of the sector, training major, are determined according to the requirements of the sector, training major of the master's degree program. Each subject exam can test the knowledge of one subject or integrate testing the knowledge of several undergraduate subjects;
  3. For specific sectors, majors, or application-oriented master's degree training programs, the training institution can replace the non-core subject specified in Point b of this Clause with other suitable competency assessment methods in line with the requirements of the sector, major, and training program. This substitution (if any) must be specifically regulated on testing requirements, grading scale, and applied uniformly to all candidates applying for the sector, major.

Note: The entrance examination subjects, methods of candidate competency assessment mentioned above must be specified in the proposal for opening sectors, training majors for master's degrees, included in the detailed regulations of this Regulation by the training institution. Any changes to the entrance examination subjects or methods of candidate competency assessment are decided by the head of the training institution based on the recommendation of the academic training council and must be reported to the Ministry of Education and Training prior to the announcement of admissions.
