Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT regarding the Regulation on Master's Degree Training.

04 Requirements for Developing Master's Degree Training Program (Illustration)

The Regulations on Master's Degree Training issued together with Circular 15/2014/TT-BGDDT stipulate that training institutions, when developing a master's degree training program, must ensure the following 04 requirements:

  1. Based on the capabilities, conditions, and development orientation for each field and specialty of the training institution, as well as the actual demand for the utilization of master's degree-level human resources, to develop and implement the master's degree training program oriented towards research and/or application.

  2. Clearly define the objectives, output standards for each field and specialty; the volume of knowledge, program structure, and requirements for the thesis in line with the research or application orientation and in accordance with current regulations.

  3. Ensure a minimum volume of knowledge of 30 credits for a one-year training program; a minimum of 45 credits for a one-and-a-half-year training program, and a minimum of 60 credits for a two-year training program. The learning volume of each credit follows the regulations of the current regulations on bachelor's and college training, credit-based formal education.

  4. Program content must aim at achieving the identified objectives and output standards; ensure that learners receive supplementary and advanced knowledge related to their field and specialty; increase interdisciplinary knowledge; enhance the ability to perform professional tasks and scientific research in the relevant field and specialty. The undergraduate-level knowledge content, if necessary to mention, must not exceed 5% of the stipulated duration for each course.
