Will students in Da Nang be off from school until September 19, 2024?

Due to the tropical depression potentially strengthening into a storm, causing heavy rain, on September 18, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Da Nang City issued Official Dispatch 2732/SGDDT-HC&GDCT in 2024, stating as follows:

Da Nang

According to the warning information from the Meteorological and Hydrological Center, the tropical depression in the East Sea may strengthen into a storm, causing heavy rain affecting Da Nang City. The DET requires heads of units and schools to implement the following:

(1). Inform preschool children, students, and learners in Da Nang to take a break from school on the afternoon of September 18, 2024, and all day September 19, 2024. Private universities are to decide on the attendance of students based on the actual situation.

Schools with boarding programs should contact the parents of preschool children and students regarding pick-up times, ensuring that preschool children and students are well managed and cared for at school when parents are unable to pick them up promptly.

(2). Strictly implement Official Dispatch 2716/SGDDT-HC&GDCT in 2024 regarding strengthening disaster prevention and control in 2024 by the DET and the local leadership’s directives on disaster prevention and flood control.

Regularly update information on the current development of the tropical depression and heavy rain; maintain communication through various channels to proactively respond safely and minimize damage caused by heavy rain.

Ensure regular, continuous two-way communication between the DET (department/sub-department) leadership, unit heads, school principals, class teachers, and parents of students and learners.

(3). Proactively and urgently organize the cleaning and tidying of schools and classrooms after the tropical depression – storm, once the water recedes and the rain stops, to allow preschool children, students, and learners to return to school as soon as possible.

In case of incidents or emerging issues, directly contact the DET leadership or local authorities for guidance on handling.

Hence, due to the tropical depression potentially strengthening into a storm, causing heavy rain, an official dispatch has been issued allowing Da Nang students to take a break from school. Students in Da Nang will be off school from the afternoon of September 18 until the end of September 19, 2024.
