According to Clause 1, Article 5 of the Regulation issued together with Circular 27/2020/TT-BGDDT, there are the following assessment criteria for 5th-grade students in Vietnam:
- Assess learning process, progression and academic results of students satisfying requirements and specific display of capacities of each subject and academic activities according to formal primary education programs.
- Assess formation and development of traits and capacities of students via following primary traits and capacities:
+ Primary traits: patriotism, humane, diligence, honesty, and sense of responsibility.
+ Primary capacities:
++) General capacities: self-control, self-studying, communication, cooperation, problem resolution and creativity;
++) Specific capacities: language, calculation, science, technology, computer, aesthetic, and physical attributes.
In 2024, what is the age of students entering 5th grade in Vietnam?
Under Article 33 of the Charter of primary schools issued together with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT stipulating the age of primary school students:
Age of primary school students
1. The starting age for students entering the first grade is 6 years old, calculated by year. Children with disabilities, those underdeveloped physically or mentally, children in areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority children, orphans without support, children returning from abroad, and children of foreigners studying and working in Vietnam may enter the first grade at an older age than stipulated but not exceeding 3 years above the prescribed age. For children starting the first grade beyond 3 years above the stipulated age, the decision will be made by the head of the Department of Education and Training.
2. primary students studying at an older age than the stipulated age include students repeating a class, students from areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions, ethnic minority students, students with disabilities, underdeveloped students physically or mentally, orphans without support, students returning from abroad, and other cases as prescribed by law.
Thus, generally, the age of students entering first grade is 6, counted by year, and if advancing annually to the fifth grade, the students would be 10 years old.
However, first graders may enter school at an age up to 3 years older than the prescribed age in certain cases, and their age in the fifth grade would be calculated by year based on their initial entrance age.
