Vietnam’s expected Lunar New Year Holiday and National Day Holiday schedules in 2024 for officials, public employees, and employees

According to the Official Dispatch, the proposed schedules for the Lunar New Year Holiday and National Day Holiday 2024 for officials, public employees, and employees of administrative agencies, public service providers, political organizations, socio-political organizations (referred to as "officials and public employees") and employees of enterprise clusters who are not officials and public employees (referred to as "employees") are as follows:

* For officials and public employees:

- Lunar New Year Holiday 2024:

+ Scheme 1: 5 days off according to regulations with 2 days off before Tet and 3 days off after Tet.

Officials and public employees shall enjoy the Lunar New Year Holiday 2024 from Thursday, February 8, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar to the end of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar (which is December 29 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Cat to the end of January 5 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Dragon).

+ Scheme 2: 5 days off according to regulations with 1 day off before Tet and 4 days off after Tet.

Officials and public employees shall enjoy the Lunar New Year Holiday 2024 from Friday, February 9, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar to the end of Thursday, February 15, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar (which is December 30 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Cat to the end of January 6 of the Moon calendar of the Year of the Dragon).

- National Day Holiday 2024:

+ Scheme 1: 2 days off according to regulations, specifically September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and an adjacent day after September 2.

Officials and public employees enjoy days off from Saturday, August 31, 2024 to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar.

+ Scheme 2: 2 days off according to regulations, specifically September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and a day preceding September 2.

Officials and public employees enjoy 4 consecutive days off from Saturday, August 31, 2024 to the end of Tuesday, September 3, 2024 of the Gregorian calendar.

* For employees:

Employers shall, based on the actual condition and the holiday schedules for officials and public employees, arrange the schedules for the Lunar New Year Holiday and National Day Holiday for employees (it is encouraged for employers to apply the schedule for the Lunar New Year Holiday for officials and public employees) as follows:

- Lunar New Year Holiday 2024:

+ Select 1 day before Tet and 4 first days after Tet or 2 days before Tet and 3 first days after Tet or 3 days before Tet and 2 days after Tet.

+ Notify employees of the scheme for the Lunar New Year Holiday schedule before implementation at least 30 days in advance.  

- National Day Holiday 2024:

Employers shall decide to let employers have 2 days off (September 2 of the Gregorian calendar and an adjacent day before or after September 2).

- If the weekly days off coincide with the days off of the Lunar New Year Holiday or National Day Holiday, employers shall arrange compensatory days off for employees on the next working days according to Clause 3 Article 11 of the Labor Code.
