Promulgation of the new standards for wheels of motorcycles and mopeds in Vietnam

Promulgated together with Circular 46/2023/TT-BGTVT is the National technical regulation on technical requirements and test methods for wheels of motorcycles and mopeds in Vietnam

This regulation regulates technical regulation on technical requirements and test methods for wheels of motorcycles and mopeds (including wheel rims made of steel and alloy).

This regulation does not apply to wheels used for security and defense purposes.

The scope of application of this standard includes manufacturing establishments, importers of rims or wheels used for motorcycles, scooters, motorcycle assembly plants, and relevant agencies and organizations involved in the management, testing, certification, and quality control of rims and wheels used for motorcycles and scooters.

Circular 46/2023/TT-BGTVT takes effect as of July 1, 2024, and annuls Circular 52/2012/TT-BGTVT promulgating 03 national technical regulations on motorcycle and moped spare parts.

General technical requirements for wheels of motorcycles and mopeds in Vietnam

- Rims and wheel rims must be manufactured according to the design or technical documents of the manufacturing facility;

- The surface of the rim and wheel rim must not have cracks or other visible defects;

- On the rim, the wheel rim must have the diameter code and nominal width code of the rim (recorded according to instructions in Appendix A) at positions that can be seen after the tire is installed;

- Rims and wheel rims must be rust-resistant (plated, painted, anti-rust materials, etc.). Do not apply to invisible parts on the rim or wheel rim surface after tire installation;

- Dimensions and tolerances of rims and wheel rims must comply with the design or technical documents of the manufacturing facility. Concave center rims (types WM, MT, and LF) must have dimensions and tolerances according to Appendix A of this Regulation.

Transitional regulations of Circular 46/2023/TT-BGTVT

- For testing documents registered before the effective date of QCVN 113:2023/BGTVT, continue testing and quality certification according to QCVN 44:2012/BGTVT or QCVN 46:2012/BGTVT.

- Within 01 year from July 1, 2024, rims and wheel rims that have been certified for quality according to QCVN 44:2012/BGTVT or QCVN 46:2012/BGTVT do not have to be tested or re-certified.
