On August 17, 2024, the Military Admissions Committee of the Ministry of National Defense announced the admission scores for military schools in 2024.

What are resident places of studens of military schools in Vietnam?

Based on Clause 1, Article 15 of the Law on Residence 2020, the residence of persons engaged in studies, work, or activities within the armed forces is stipulated as follows:

Residence of persons engaged in studies, work, or activities within the armed forces

1. The residence of officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, professional military personnel, defense workers, civil defense employees, students, and cadets of the People's Army schools is where their unit is stationed, except for officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, professional military personnel, defense workers, and civil defense employees who have other places of residence as prescribed by this Law.

2. The residence of professional officers, non-commissioned professional officers, technical officers, non-commissioned technical officers, students, cadets of the People's Police schools, non-commissioned officers, conscripted soldiers, and police workers is where their unit is stationed, except for professional officers, non-commissioned professional officers, technical officers, non-commissioned technical officers, and police workers who have other places of residence as prescribed by this Law.

3. The conditions, dossiers, and procedures for permanent residence registration, temporary residence registration at the unit's station for persons specified in Clause 1 of this Article shall be governed by the Minister of National Defense, and for persons specified in Clause 2 of this Article shall be governed by the Minister of Public Security.

Thus, according to the regulations, the residence of students and cadets of the People's Army schools is where their unit is stationed.

What are ranks and grades in the current military rank system for officers in Vietnam?

Based on Article 10 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999, the current military rank system for officers includes three ranks and twelve grades:

- The Officer Rank has four grades:

+ Second Lieutenant;

+ First Lieutenant;

+ Captain;

+ Major.

- The Field Officer Rank has four grades:

+ Major;

+ Lieutenant Colonel;

+ Senior Colonel;

+ Colonel.

- The General Officer Rank has four grades:

+ Major General, Rear Admiral;

+ Lieutenant General, Vice Admiral;

+ Senior Lieutenant General, Admiral;

+ General.

What knowledge is required to become a military officer after graduating from military schools in Vietnam?

According to the provisions of Article 12 of the Law on Officers of the Vietnam People's Army 1999, the general standards for military officers include the following requirements:

Standards of officers

1. General standards:

a) Have strong political will, absolute loyalty to the Fatherland and the people, to the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; possess a high sense of revolutionary vigilance, readiness to fight, sacrifice, and complete all assigned tasks;

b) Possess revolutionary moral qualities; be thrifty, honest, just, selfless; exemplarily comply with the Party's policies, the State's laws; promote democracy, strictly maintain military discipline; respect and unite with the people and comrades; be trusted by the masses;

c) Have political, military science knowledge and the ability to creatively apply Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh's thoughts, the Party’s guidelines and viewpoints in building the people's national defense, and the people's army; have knowledge about culture, economy, society, law, and other fields; possess practical capabilities to meet the requirements of assigned tasks; have graduated from training programs as prescribed for each position;

d) Have a clear personal history, an age, and health suitable for the position and military rank assigned.

2. Specific standards for each officer position shall be prescribed by the competent authorities.

Therefore, after graduating from military schools, to become a military officer, one must have knowledge about culture, economy, society, law, and other fields.

Such knowledge should be continuously cultivated to keep up with the development of society.
