Implementation of Scientific Research Projects by Students

  1. Students propose scientific research topics according to the plan of the higher education institution.
  1. Students implement the projects after approval. Each project is primarily responsible by one student, with other students participating, the number of participating students is determined by the higher education institution.
  1. The duration of the project implementation follows the plan of the higher education institution.

Thus, in a scientific research project at a higher education institution, the number of participating students is determined by the higher education institution.

Therefore, the law does not limit the number of students conducting a scientific research project; it is decided by the higher education institution.

What are responsibilities and rights of students participating in scientific research in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 12 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT stipulating the responsibilities and rights of students participating in scientific research:

Responsibilities of Students:

- Conduct scientific research honestly and seriously;

- Be responsible for implementing scientific research projects for students; participate in scientific conferences, seminars, forums, and other scientific and technological activities at higher education institutions;

- Comply with the provisions of the law on intellectual property, scientific and technological activities, and other current laws.

Rights of Students:

- Propose and register to implement scientific research projects;

- Be facilitated to use the available facilities and equipment of the higher education institution to conduct research activities;

- Receive financial support for scientific research according to the regulations of the higher education institution;

- Publish and receive support to publish research results in scientific journals, proceedings, and other scientific and technological publications domestically and internationally according to regulations;

- Receive support to register intellectual property rights for research results under current regulations;

- Be considered for priority in grading academic performance, training points; prioritized for scholarships and awards according to the regulations of the higher education institution;

- Enjoy other benefits according to regulations.

What does students' scientific research activity in Vietnam include?

Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 5 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, students' scientific research activities include:

- Organizing the implementation of scientific research projects for students;

- Organizing activities to support knowledge, and enhance scientific research and technology transfer capacity for students;

- Organizing conferences, seminars, and scientific forums; competitions for ideas and startup projects for students; guiding and encouraging students to participate in awards, science and technology exhibitions, competitions, and academic forums domestically and internationally for students;

- Organizing communication activities on science and technology to raise awareness of research ethics, and knowledge about intellectual property for students; introducing ideas, startup projects, and student research results to investors and enterprises domestically and internationally;

- Rewarding and recommending rewards, and honoring students, student groups, and mentors with outstanding achievements in scientific research activities; recognizing organizations and individuals who have significantly contributed to student scientific research activities;

- Other forms of student scientific and technological activities under current regulations.

What are requirements for students' scientific research activities  in Vietnam?

Pursuant to Article 3 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, the requirements for student scientific research activities are as follows:

  1. Suitable with the capability and aspirations of the students.
  1. Suitable with the objectives, content, and training program the students are studying; suitable with the scientific and technological orientation of the higher education institution.
  1. Research results with scientific value, novelty, creativity, and contribute to applying acquired knowledge in practice.
  1. Compliant with current laws on scientific and technological activities.

Thus, student scientific research activities must ensure the following requirements:

- Suitable with the capability and aspirations of the students.

- Suitable with the objectives, content, and training program the students are studying; suitable with the scientific and technological orientation of the higher education institution.

- Research results with scientific value, novelty, creativity, and contribution to applying acquired knowledge in practice.

- Compliant with current laws on scientific and technological activities.
