Vietnam: Supplementing preferential policies for leading scientists

On March 01, 2020, the Government of Vietnam issued Decree No. 27/2020/NĐ-CP amending Decree No. 40/2014/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government on utilization of individuals’ participation in science and technology activities.

Decree No. 27/2020/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government has amended and supplemented policies on utilization of leading scientists in order to encourage scientists to have conditions to research and develop science and technology.

Specifically, in addition to policies specified in Clauses 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 Article 18 of Decree No. 40/2014/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, leading scientists shall also enjoy the following policies:

- Leading scientists shall be provided with funding for performing approved science and technology missions according to scientific development schemes selected by the examination council established by the Minister of Science and Technology according to annual progress; (this content was prescribed in Decree No. 40/2014/NĐ-CP, amended by Decree No. 27/2020/NĐ-CP)

- Leading scientists shall be glorified and awarded scientific and technological titles/prizes with respect to excellent science and technology results according to relevant laws. (newly supplemented in Decree No. 27/2020/NĐ-CP)
