Vietnam: Increasing fines for violations on goods labeling from December 15

This is a notable content of Decree No. 119/2017/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government on penalties for administrative violations against regulations on standards, measurement and quality of goods.

According to Decree No. 119/2017/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, from December 15, 2017, a fine of from VND 500,000 to VND 1,000,000 (current fine is only from VND 100,000 to VND 300,000) shall be imposed for any of the following violations if the illegal goods are not exceeding VND 5,000,000:

- The goods have labels that are obscured, torn, translucent or illegible or make it unable to read all compulsory contents on goods labels;

- The goods have labels specifying false letter and number sizes, language, quantity and measurement units prescribed in regulations of law on goods labeling.

Depending on the value of infringing goods, a corresponding fine is applied, the highest is VND 30 million (according to current regulations, the highest fine is VND 10 million).
