Cases Exempt from the Obligation to Participate in Militia and Self-Defense Forces from July 1, 2020

Here is the newly revised and supplemented content of the Militia and Self-Defense Law 2019, which was passed by the National Assembly on November 22, 2019.

To be specific, from July 01, 2020, citizens are exempt from the obligation to participate in the Militia and Self-Defense Force under the following circumstances:

- Wife or husband, child of a martyr;- Wife or husband, child of a war invalid, sick soldier, or person affected by Agent Orange with a work capacity decrease of 81% or more;- Reservists who have been arranged into reserved mobilization units;- Person directly nurturing and caring for a Vietnamese Heroic Mother; person directly nurturing someone with a work capacity decrease of 81% or more;- Cypher officers.

Citizens who are exempt from the obligation to participate in the Militia and Self-Defense Force may be considered for recruitment into the Militia and Self-Defense Force if they volunteer.
