Border Guard officers are competent to issue Vietnamese visas

This is a new regulation supplemented in Decree No. 77/2017/NĐ-CP on management and protection of security at port checkpoints, issued by Vietnam’s Government on July 03, 2017.

Border Guard officers are competent to issue Vietnamese visas to foreigners at international border gates.

- The issuance of visas is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 18 of the Law on Entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam.

- If there is insufficient time for submitting the original of the written response, upon the written request of the applicant, the port border guard shall allow the applicant to submit the faxed copy or the original’s copy to follow procedures for issuance of the visa.

Moreover, the port border guard shall also issue types of permits specified in the Appendix attached to Decree No. 77/2017/NĐ-CP, to be specific:

- Disembarkation cards (Form No. 01 and Form No. 02);

- Permits (Form No. 03);

- Shore passes of seamen (Form No. 04).
