Vietnam: Units used in damage calculation in forestry

This is a notable content specified in Decree No. 35/2019/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government providing for penalties for administrative violations against regulations on forestry.

According to Decree No. 35/2019/NĐ-CP of Vietnam’s Government, units used in damage calculation are specified as follows:

- Forest area or immature forest area is calculated by m2.

- Timber volume is calculated by m3.

- Units and methods for determining quantities and volumes of forest products shall conform to regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. When imposing administrative penalties, the exhibits of violations which are timber must be converted into logs. Sawn wood or roughly squared wood may be converted into logs by multiplying a coefficient of 1.6.

- The value of forest animals of common species, body parts or products thereof, endangered, rare and precious animals of Group IIB, body parts or products thereof, endangered, rare and precious animals of Group IB, body parts or products thereof, non-timber forest plants and timber products shall be determined in VND.
