What information is collected and updated in the National Database on Immigration? (illustrative image)

Article 4 of Decree 77/2020/ND-CP regulates the information collected and updated into the National Database on Immigration, including:

- For Vietnamese citizens, it follows the regulations in Article 41 and Article 42 of the Law on Immigration of Vietnamese Citizens;

- For foreigners, the information collected and updated includes: surname, middle name, and given name in the passport or international travel document; date of birth; gender; nationality; portrait photograph; fingerprints; number, symbol, date, type of document, and place of issuance of the passport or international travel document; immigration history to and from Vietnam; residence in Vietnam; and other related information.

This Circular stipulates that information in the National Database on Immigration is collected and updated from the following sources:

- Declarations, forms, and information collected during the procedures for issuing documents to foreigners for entry, exit, transit, and residence in Vietnam; issuing entry and exit documents to Vietnamese citizens or during the immigration control process at border gates;

- Information extracted from immigration management records and standardized, converted immigration databases; extracted from the National Population Database, Citizen Identity Database, other national and specialized databases through connection, sharing;

- Receipt and processing of information provided by individuals, agencies, and organizations related to the immigration of foreigners and Vietnamese citizens.

The following agencies are responsible for collecting and updating information into the National Database on Immigration:

- Agencies issuing entry and exit documents, immigration control units during the process of handling procedures according to their functions and duties are responsible for promptly collecting and updating arising information stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article;

- Agencies managing the National Population Database, Citizen Identity Database, other national and specialized databases are responsible for coordination and unification in methods and contents to ensure information sharing stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article;

- Individuals, agencies, and organizations are responsible for providing complete, prompt, and accurate information stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article directly or via the electronic portal on immigration specified in Clause 18 Article 1 of the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam.
