What are regulations on the study time of university students in Vietnam?

Based on Article 2 of the Training Regulations for University Level enclosed with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT:

Training program and study time

1. The training program is constructed based on credit units, structured from courses or modules (hereinafter referred to as modules), including all compulsory modules and meeting the current training program standards as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training. In the case of dual major or major-minor training programs, the training program must clearly show the general and specific workload for each major.

2. The content and output standards of the training program apply uniformly to different forms, methods of organizing training, and types of students. For individuals who have graduated from different levels or majors, the actual learning workload is determined based on credit recognition, transfer, and exemption from modules in the previous training program.

3. The training program must be publicly available to students before enrollment and at the beginning of the course; Changes or adjustments related to the training program are implemented according to current regulations and announced before being applied, without causing adverse effects on students.

4. For each type of training, the training program needs to provide a standard plan for the entire course to guide students.

a) The time according to the standard study plan for full-time training must comply with the time prescribed in the National Education System Framework, ensuring that the majority of students complete the training program;

b) The time according to the standard study plan for part-time training must be at least 20% longer than that of the full-time training of the same program.

5. The maximum time for students to complete the course is specified in the regulations of the training institution but must not exceed 2 times the time according to the standard study plan for each type of training. For students on a bridging program who have been exempted from accumulated credits, the maximum time for students to complete the course is determined based on the reduced time according to the standard study plan corresponding to the exempted workload.

What are regulations on classification of university students' academic performance in Vietnam?

According to Clause 5 of Article 10 of the Training Regulations for University Level enclosed with Circular 08/2021/TT-BGDDT, the classification of students' academic performance by semester average score, yearly average score, or cumulative average score is specified as follows:

- According to the 4-point scale:

+ From 3.6 to 4.0: Excellent;

+ From 3.2 to under 3.6: Good;

+ From 2.5 to under 3.2: Fair;

+ From 2.0 to under 2.5: Average;

+ From 1.0 to under 2.0: Weak;

+ Below 1.0: Poor.

- According to the 10-point scale:

+ From 9.0 to 10.0: Excellent;

+ From 8.0 to under 9.0: Good;

+ From 7.0 to under 8.0: Fair;

+ From 5.0 to under 7.0: Average;

+ From 4.0 to under 5.0: Weak;

+ Below 4.0: Poor.
