Pursuant to Article 3 of Decree 84/2020/ND-CP, the regulation on the summer break for teachers is specified as follows:
Summer break time for teachers
- Summer break time for teachers:
a) The annual summer break for teachers at preschool education institutions, general education institutions, and special schools is 08 weeks, including annual leave.
b) The annual summer break for teachers at intermediate schools and lecturers at colleges is 06 weeks, including annual leave.
c) The annual summer break for lecturers at higher education institutions is implemented according to the organizational and operational regulations of the higher education institutions;
d) In cases of emergencies such as natural disaster prevention, epidemic prevention, or urgent cases, the summer break for teachers at preschool education institutions, general education institutions, special schools, intermediate schools, and colleges will be decided by the Minister of Education and Training, the Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs according to their respective authority.
- In addition to the summer break stipulated in Clause 1 of this Article, teachers and lecturers are entitled to holidays, Tet holidays, and other leave days according to the Labor Code.
- Based on the academic year plan issued by the Ministry of Education and Training and the specific conditions of the locality, the Chairman of the People's Committee at the province or central city level (hereinafter referred to as the provincial People's Committee) will decide the summer break timing for teachers at preschool, general education institutions, and special schools within their jurisdiction.
Based on the regulations at point b, clause 1 of this Article, the principal of intermediate schools and colleges will decide the summer break timing for teachers and lecturers in accordance with the training plan and specific conditions of each school.
- The summer break for teachers in educational institutions under the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Defense shall follow specific regulations of the Government.
Thus, primary school teachers have an 08-week summer break, including annual leave.

What are the duties of primary school teachers in Vietnam?
Pursuant to Article 27 of the Primary School Charter issued together with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the duties of primary school teachers are as follows:
- Implement the primary education curriculum and the school's educational plan. Proactively perform and take responsibility for the educational plan; autonomy and accountability in performing professional duties (content, educational methods, student assessment) and the quality and effectiveness of each student in their class, ensuring the prescribed curriculum, suitable for the student demographics and specific conditions of the school.
- Participate in developing education plans with the professional group and the school; regularly update directives from the sector; prepare, organize teaching, and assess students according to regulations; carry out other professional activities.
- Build friendly, democratic relationships between teachers and students, parents, and the community; help students become proactive, creative, confident, and independent in learning and training.
- Maintain the qualities, honor, and prestige of teachers; culturally engage, unite, assist colleagues; be a role model before students; love, treat equitably, and respect students; protect the legal rights and interests of students.
- Self-evaluate according to professional standards for teachers; self-study, self-train to enhance professional skills; undertake regular training tasks for teachers as stipulated; exchange and share expertise with colleagues in and out of school through professional activities and training sessions.
- Apply information technology in teaching, learning, and professional activities; creatively and flexibly make teaching aids.
- Participate in selecting textbooks as stipulated; propose the school equips reference publications and teaching equipment according to stipulations, suitable for use in the teaching process.
- Participate in educational quality accreditation.
- Participate in compulsory education implementation, universal education, and literacy eradication in the locality.
- Cooperate with Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, student families, the community, and related social organizations to carry out educational tasks.
- Manage and organize implementing the educational plan at the school point assigned by the principal.
- Perform other duties as stipulated by law and assigned by the principal.
* Teachers acting as head teachers have additional duties as follows:
- Proactively grasp information about each student in the assigned class; develop class educational activities that clearly reflect the goals, content, and methods of education, ensuring feasibility, appropriateness for the students' characteristics, and real conditions to promote the progress of the whole class and individual students.
- Implement educational activities according to the developed plan and approved by the principal.
- Closely cooperate with parents or guardians, teachers, youth group advisors, relevant social organizations to organize educational activities and support, monitor the learning and training of their class students; summarize, assess students at the end of the first semester and school year; guide students in voting and proposing awards; list students proposed to stay in the class; complete student report cards.
- Regularly or unexpectedly report the class situation to the principal.
* Teachers acting as the Total Advisor for the Young Pioneer Organization are responsible to the principal for developing and organizing the activities of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization and the Ho Chi Minh Young Stars to contribute to fully achieving the educational objectives for students.

Pursuant to Article 30 of the Primary School Charter issued in conjunction with Circular 28/2020/TT-BGDDT, the qualification and professional standards of primary school teachers are as follows:
Qualification and professional standards for teachers and staff
1. The standard qualification for primary school teachers is having a bachelor's degree in primary education or a relevant bachelor's degree with a certificate in primary education pedagogy.
- Professional standards for primary school teachers are implemented as prescribed. Annually, teachers conduct self-evaluation and are periodically evaluated by the school according to the professional standards for primary school teachers as a basis for developing study and training plans to enhance professional capacity.
- The standard qualification for primary school staff is stipulated in documents regulating the criteria for job title standards for each staff position.
Therefore, it is not mandatory for primary school teachers to have a bachelor's degree in primary education.
If a primary school teacher does not have a bachelor's degree in primary education, they must have a relevant bachelor's degree and a certificate in primary education pedagogy.
