Based on Article 4 of the Regulations on the national excellent student selection exam issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT:

Eligible Candidates

1. For the national excellent student selection exam:

a) High school students with good conduct and academic performance ratings as per the final results of the semester (or academic year) prior to the exam and selected to the competition unit's team;

b) Each candidate is only allowed to participate in one subject per academic year.

2. For the Olympic team selection exam:

High school students meeting one of the following criteria:

a) Selected by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) from students who have won prizes in the national excellent student selection exam of the same academic year according to the ranking of scores from high to low, ensuring the number of students selected for each subject does not exceed eight (08) times the number of students needed for the national team to participate in the International Olympic competition for that subject;

b) Did not participate in the national excellent student selection exam of the same academic year, but has been a member of the national team participating in the regional Olympic competition; or a member of the national team participating in the International Olympic competition in the previous academic year.

Candidates who do not participate in the national excellent student selection exam of the same year can still take the Olympic team selection exam if they have been a member of the national team participating in the regional Olympic competition; or a member of the national team participating in the International Olympic competition in the previous academic year.

What is the duration of the exams for the subjects in the Olympic team selection exam in Vietnam?

According to Clause 3, Article 5 of the Regulations on the national excellent student selection exam issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT:

3. Exam format and duration:

a) For the national excellent student selection exam: Two exam sessions for the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics, and Foreign Languages; one exam session for the subjects of Literature, History, and Geography; the duration is 180 minutes. Informatics is tested through computer programming; other subjects are written exams: Foreign Languages have an additional speaking test, with candidates getting 05 minutes to prepare and 05 minutes to record;

b) For the Olympic team selection exam: Two exam sessions for each subject; Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have an additional practical exam session; the duration is 300 minutes per exam for Informatics, 270 minutes per exam for Mathematics, and 240 minutes per exam for other subjects. The duration for the practical exam session for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology is 180 minutes.

The duration of the exams for the subjects in the Olympic team selection exam is 240 minutes per exam.

Except for Informatics which has a duration of 300 minutes per exam, and Mathematics with 270 minutes per exam; the practical exam sessions for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have a duration of 180 minutes.

How to handle the case if the exam paper for the Olympic team selection exam in Vietnam is leaked?

According to Article 10 of the Regulations on the national excellent student selection exam issued together with Circular 17/2023/TT-BGDDT:

Handling unexpected incidents

1. In case of errors in the exam paper, the leadership of the Exam Council must immediately report to the Exam Steering Committee for handling measures.

2. Any unusual incidents related to the exam paper must be reported to the Exam Steering Committee for consideration and decision.

3. In case the CD containing the listening comprehension test for Foreign Languages is damaged:

a) If the main CD is damaged but the backup CD is not, the Chairman of the Exam Council shall make a record of the condition of the CDs and use the backup CD;

b) If both the main and backup CDs are damaged, the Chairman of the Exam Council shall make a record of the condition of the CDs, stop the Foreign Language exam with the damaged CD, and immediately report to the Head of the Exam Steering Committee; the Head of the Exam Steering Committee is responsible for directing the Exam Council to organize the exam using the backup exam paper's CD according to the decision of the Minister of Education and Training.

4. In case the exam paper is leaked:

a) The Exam Steering Committee is fully responsible for handling the exam paper leakage. Once there is an official conclusion on the exam paper leakage, the Exam Steering Committee decides to cancel the exam session with the leaked paper and organize a re-exam with the backup exam paper at a suitable time according to the decision of the Minister of Education and Training.

b) MOET is responsible for cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate, verify, and conclude the cause of the exam paper leakage; handle the person who leaked the exam paper and other related individuals according to legal regulations.

The handling for the case if the exam paper for the Olympic team selection exam is leaked is as follows:

(1) The Exam Steering Committee is fully responsible for handling the exam paper leakage.

Once there is an official conclusion on the exam paper leakage, the Exam Steering Committee decides to cancel the exam session with the leaked paper and organize a re-exam with the backup exam paper at a suitable time according to the decision of the Minister of Education and Training.

(2) MOET is responsible for cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate, verify, and conclude the cause of the exam paper leakage; handle the person who leaked the exam paper and other related individuals according to legal regulations.
