Violations of alcohol concentration, running red lights, speeding, carrying more passengers than the regulations, etc., are common traffic violations during the Lunar New Year holiday.
- Alcohol concentration violation:
According to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, the fine for drivers of cars with alcohol concentrations exceeding the permitted limits can be up to 40 million VND, while for drivers of motorcycles and motorbikes, the fine can be up to 10 million VND. This violation can also lead to license suspension and point deduction on the driving license.
- Running a red light:
Drivers of cars, four-wheeled motor vehicles, four-wheeled goods-carrying vehicles, and similar car types who do not obey traffic signal instructions will be fined from 18-20 million VND (previous regulation fines were from 4-6 million VND).
Drivers of motorcycles, motorbikes, similar motorcycle types, and similar motorbike types who do not obey traffic signal instructions will be fined from 4-6 million VND (previous regulations fined from 800,000 - 1 million VND).
- Speeding:
For acts of exceeding the speed limit by drivers of cars, four-wheeled motor vehicles, four-wheeled goods-carrying vehicles, and similar vehicle types:
Driving at a speed exceeding the regulation from 5km/h to under 10km/h will be fined 800,000 - 1 million VND. For speeds exceeding by 10km/h to 20km/h, car drivers will be fined 4-6 million VND. If the vehicle is driven over the speed limit from 20km/h to under 35km/h, the fine will be 6-8 million VND. If the vehicle is driven over the speed limit by more than 35km/h, the fine is 12-14 million VND.
For drivers of motorcycles, motorbikes, and similar vehicle types, the fine for exceeding the speed limit from 5km/h to under 10km/h is 400,000-600,000 VND; from 10km/h to 20km/h is 800,000-1 million VND. If exceeding the speed limit by more than 20km/h, the motorbike driver will be fined 6-8 million VND.
- Carrying more passengers than allowed on motorbikes:
A fine ranging from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND will be imposed if carrying 2 passengers on a bike, except in cases of carrying a sick person to emergency, a child under 12 years old, an elderly person, or a disabled person, or escorting persons committing legal violations.
A fine ranging from 600,000 VND to 800,000 VND will be imposed if carrying 3 or more persons on a bike; in addition, 02 points will be deducted from the driving license.
- Carrying oversized load:
According to the regulations, individuals who operate motorbikes carrying oversized loads under the new 2025 regulation will be fined from 600,000 VND to 800,000 VND. If the motorbike carrying an oversized load causes an accident, the fine ranges from 10 million VND to 14 million VND.
Moreover, under the regulations, motorbikes carrying oversized loads will only incur a monetary fine, without point deduction from the driving license.
- Not wearing a helmet while participating in traffic:
The fine for not wearing a helmet while riding a motorbike is from 400,000 VND to 600,000 VND. This fine also applies for not fastening the helmet strap properly when operating a motorbike on the road.
- Illegal racing:
Based on Clause 2, Article 35 of Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, the fines for organizing illegal racing are as follows:
Fines and point deductions on driver licenses for illegal racers, organizers of racing, instigators, and supporters of illegal racing.
- A fine ranging from 1,000,000 VND to 2,000,000 VND for violations such as gathering to encourage, assist, or instigate actions involving operating vehicles beyond the speed limit, weaving, swerving, chasing each other on roads, or illegal racing.
- A fine ranging from 40,000,000 VND to 50,000,000 VND for individuals, and from 80,000,000 VND to 100,000,000 VND for organizations committing violations related to organizing illegal racing.
