04 regulations on daytime treatment using traditional medicine at hospitals in Vietnam from February 18, 2025

On December 31, 2024, the Minister of Health of Vietnam issued Circular 56/2024/TT-BYT regulating daytime treatment using traditional medicine at hospitals.

The 04 regulations on daytime treatment with traditional medicine at hospitals in Vietnam include the following contents:

(1) Prescription, Change of Prescription Form, and Implementation of Daytime Treatment

- Prescription for daytime inpatient treatment with traditional medicine for patients falls under the authority and responsibility of medical practitioners and must meet the following criteria: the patient's health condition and pathology require inpatient treatment but do not necessitate continuous monitoring and treatment 24/24 hours, ensuring the quality, purposes, and objectives of traditional medicine treatment.

- Changes in the treatment form are decided by the practitioner based on the patient's condition and must:

+ Comply with the conditions for applying treatment forms specified in Articles 76, 77, and 78 of the Medical Examination and Treatment Law;

+ Fully record the pathological progress in the medical record, the treatment process, and summarize the medical record upon changing the treatment form as prescribed;

+ The time of change in the treatment form is determined at the time recorded in the medical record.

- Daytime treatment is conducted according to the provisions in Articles 77 and 78 of the Medical Examination and Treatment Law.

- Practitioners prescribing daytime treatment with traditional medicine must guide the patient on how to monitor and detect any abnormal pathological signs in cases when the patient is not under treatment at the hospital.

(2) Daytime Treatment Beds

- Daytime treatment beds of medical examination and treatment facilities are based on the number of beds approved by the competent authority.

- The maximum number of patients requiring daytime treatment with traditional medicine should not exceed 03 (three) persons per 01 (one) bed per day.

(3) Daytime Treatment Medical Records

- Medical records used in daytime treatment with traditional medicine must follow the traditional medicine inpatient medical record form as prescribed in Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT.

- Practitioners are responsible for prescribing daytime treatment and clearly detailing the prescription content in the Hospital Admission Examination Form when patients visit the medical facility, except for cases of changing the treatment form as stated in point b, clause 2, Article 2 of Circular 56/2024/TT-BYT.

(4) Payment of Daytime Treatment Medical Examination and Treatment Costs

- Patients not participating in health insurance make payments for daytime treatment medical examination and treatment costs as prescribed in clause 2, Article 18 of the Medical Examination and Treatment Law.

- The payment for daytime treatment medical examination and treatment costs for patients participating in health insurance is carried out as follows:

+ No payment for examination fees during the period of daytime treatment;

+ Costs for daytime treatment beds are according to the service prices for medical examination and treatment approved by the competent authority for the hospital.
