Regulations on Remediation of Biological Safety Incidents in Level IV Laboratories

On September 25, 2017, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 37/2017/TT-BYT specifically regulating the remediation of biosafety incidents in Level IV laboratories.

Accordingly, Circular 37 stipulates that a Biosafety Level IV laboratory must fully comply with the provisions in Clause 5, Article 5 of this Circular and the following regulations:

- Materials and equipment transported in and out of the laboratory must be carried in transport boxes sterilized by chemicals or sterilized by two-door infectious medical waste autoclaves;- Infectious agents taken out of the laboratory may only be removed after being double-sealed with non-breakable material, appropriately decontaminated, and approved by the person responsible for biosafety;- There are and follow sterilization procedures applicable to equipment and tools that cannot be sterilized by two-door infectious medical waste autoclaves.
