Regulations on Pre-Retirement Leave for Military Officers

Here is the noteworthy content stipulated in Circular No. 153/2017/TT-BQP issued by the Ministry of National Defense on June 26, 2017, regulating the leave policies for officers of the People's Army of Vietnam.

Circular 153 stipulates that officers who decide to retire will have a preparatory period for family logistics as follows:

- From a full 20 years of service to under 25 years of service: 09 months;- From a full 25 years of service and above: 12 months.

In the case where officers wish to retire immediately (without the preparatory retirement period or the full required time), upon transition, they will receive a salary differential according to current regulations for not taking the preparatory retirement period.

Officers taking the preparatory retirement period at their families must register their leave duration with the People's Committee of the commune, ward, or commune-level town where the family resides.

Moreover, Circular 153 also stipulates that during the preparatory retirement period, if the officer contracts a severe illness, requires long-term treatment, or suffers from mental illness, it will be handled according to the legal provisions on the management, treatment, care, and policy resolution for military personnel, defense public employees, and workers in cryptographic organizations managed by the military who contract severe illnesses, require long-term treatment, or suffer from mental illness.

See details in Circular 153/2017/TT-BQP, effective from August 11, 2017.
