03 Requirements for Students in the Intermediate-Level Vocal Music Program

This is notable content from Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH regulating the minimum amount of knowledge and competency requirements that learners must achieve after graduating from intermediate and college levels for disciplines and professions in the fields of art, fine arts, and languages, and information, effective February 10, 2019.

Circular 40/2018/TT-BLDTBXH stipulates that the intermediate-level vocal music major is a professional singer career, performing songs with one's own voice in various music genres and types: Folk song, lyrical, revolutionary music; pop music (light music), meeting the level 4 requirements in the Vietnamese National Qualifications Framework. After graduation from the intermediate-level vocal music major, students need to meet the following 03 requirements:

1. Regarding the knowledge volume

- Identify basic knowledge about the history of Vietnamese and world music, fundamental knowledge of the music industry such as solfeggio, recording, harmony…;- Present basic knowledge about vocal techniques, understand methods of classical singing, folk songs, and contemporary music;- Present techniques of performing vocal works such as Aria, romance, suite, song, choir...;- Identify specialized knowledge and techniques to practice and build vocal works that meet the required standards;- Identify basic knowledge about stage performance art, body liberation, folk and ethnic dance art, and dance sport;- Describe forms of stage performance, the role of the singer on stage according to different music genres, specific performance programs;- Present methods of selecting various specialized sound equipment, performing instruments, and explain their uses;- Describe measures to ensure safety for tools, equipment, and performers;- Present basic knowledge about politics, culture, society, law, national defense and security, physical education as prescribed.

2. Regarding professional skills

- Apply basic vocal techniques and skills in the intermediate-level training program. Perform vocal works such as: Aria, romance, suite, folk songs, contemporary songs in forms such as singing solo, duet, group sing, choir...;- Demonstrate skills in vocal training, breaking down songs, harmonizing, singing solo, group singing… as required;- Develop the ability to build vocal works in various styles;- Use audio equipment for singing such as microphones, music software, and explore media technology applications;- Practice body liberation skills for stage performance, basic dance skills, and dance sport;- Practice musical instrument techniques to use simple accompaniment;- Apply music analysis skills, simple harmonization;- Select the right and complete specialized sound equipment, major instruments for performances;- Organize and arrange measures to ensure the safety of tools, equipment, and performers;- Use basic information technology as prescribed; apply information technology in some professional tasks of the major;- Use basic foreign language, reaching level 1/6 in the Vietnamese Foreign Language Proficiency Framework; apply foreign languages in some professional tasks of the major.

3. Regarding autonomy and responsibility

- Be conscious of self-study, improving professional qualifications, and creativity in the profession;- Have proper attitude and professional ethics, discipline consciousness, scientific working methods;- Work independently in changing working conditions, take personal responsibility and partial responsibility for group work;- Evaluate the quality of personal work and part of the implementation results of group members;- Communicate politely and elegantly with the audience, colleagues, and employers.
