What are the requirements for developing literary competencies for lower secondary school students in Vietnam?

Under Section 3 of the General Education Program for Literature issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the objectives for each educational level are regulated as follows:

- Objectives for lower secondary education:

+ Help students continue developing good qualities formed during primary education; enhance and expand the development of such qualities with specific expressions such as: pride in national history and literature; having dreams and aspirations, self-study and self-respect spirit, civic consciousness, and law-abiding respect.

+ Continue to develop general, language, and literature competencies formed in primary education with higher attainment requirements. Develop language proficiency with the requirement to: distinguish between literary, argumentative, and informational texts; comprehend both explicit and implicit contents of various text types; write coherent, logical, and correctly structured narrative, descriptive, expressive, argumentative, expository, and practical essays that integrate expression methods; speak coherently and understandably; demonstrate confidence and appropriate communication attitudes; listen with an appropriate attitude.

Develop literary skills with the requirement to: distinguish between genres like stories, poetry, memoirs, scripts, and specific sub-types; recognize characteristics of literary language, analyze the effects of form and artistic devices associated with each literary genre; recognize expressive, cognitive, and aesthetic values; analyze the imagery, content, and form of a literary work; and create some literary-like products.
