Vietnam: Cases where the Health Insurance Fund does not pay the cost of modern drugs

This is the content mentioned in Circular 20/2022/TT-BYT dated December 31, 2022, promulgating the List and payment rates and conditions for pharmaceutical drugs, biological products, radioactive drugs and markers within the scope of benefits of the insured in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam's Circular 20/2022/TT-BYT, the Health Insurance Fund of Vietnam does not pay modern drug costs in the following cases:

- Drugs or drug batches that have been subjected to a suspension or withdrawal decision;

The non-payment for drugs or drug batches that have decisions on suspension of circulation and recall according to the scope of application in the Ministry of Health of Vietnam's written notice or decision on suspension or withdrawal of such drugs or batches.

- According to current regulations, the cost of drugs has been included in the price of technical services, medical examinations, treatment bed days, or package charges.

- The cost of the drug is covered by the state budget or other funding sources;

- Drugs used in clinical trials and scientific research.

Vietnam's Circular 20/2022/TT-BYT takes effect from March 1, 2023.
