On November 15, 2024, the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam issued Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg stipulating the roadmap for applying emission standards for imported and domestically manufactured, assembled motor vehicles.

Roadmap for the application of emission standards for newly imported motor vehicles in Vietnam from January 1, 2025

The roadmap for implementing emission standards for newly imported motor vehicles and those manufactured or assembled in Vietnam will be carried out in accordance with the provisions in Article 4 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 as follows:

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled automobiles will continue to apply Emission Standard Level 5 as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from January 1, 2025;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled two-wheeled motorcycles will continue to apply Emission Standard Level 2 as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled two-wheeled motorbikes will continue to apply Emission Standard Level 3 as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled two-wheeled motorcycles will apply Emission Standard Level 4 as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from July 1, 2027;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled two-wheeled motorbikes will apply Emission Standard Level 4 as prescribed in Clause 1, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from July 1, 2026;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled four-wheeled passenger vehicles with engines, and four-wheeled cargo vehicles with engines will apply an emission standard of "0" as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from January 1, 2026;

- Newly imported and manufactured or assembled three-wheeled motorbikes, and three-wheeled motorcycles will apply an emission standard of "0" as prescribed in Clause 3, Article 3 of Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg of 2024 from January 1, 2026.

Refer to Decision 19/2024/QD-TTg effective from January 1, 2025.
