Over 73,000 hectares of land for mineral exploration and exploitation for construction materials in Vietnam until 2050

The land use plan in Vietnam for implementing the Planning for exploration, exploitation, processing, and use of minerals for construction materials for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, includes the following details:

- The land use plan serving the process of mineral exploitation for construction materials nationwide must comply with the national land use planning and plan. Based on the provisions of Clause 3, Article 47 of the Law on Planning, the land use plan to implement the planning shall be led by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in cooperation with ministries, ministerial-level agencies, and the Provincial People's Committees, to submit to competent authorities for issuance, in which the principles for constructing the Land Use Plan for mineral exploitation projects are as follows:

+ Implement mineral exploitation projects with the aim to promptly return the land fund to localities for the execution of other socio-economic development projects, minimizing the impact of mineral areas on the local land use plans.

+ Adjust the land use plan and progress of exploration and exploitation projects for construction materials when proposed by the Provincial People's Committees for some specific mineral areas (large deposits, widespread distribution, open-pit methods such as white sand, minerals for cement, decorative stones, etc.) to execute urgent, important projects, especially public investment projects, technical infrastructure projects for national and public interests, projects mobilizing social resources, projects renovating, upgrading infrastructure to serve local socio-economic development, based on the principle of protecting and developing public assets, ensuring the recovery and protection of mineral resources and compliance with legal provisions.

- The estimated total land use demand necessary for mineral exploration and exploitation for construction materials nationwide until 2050 is about 73,629 hectares, in which the land use demand for the period 2021 - 2030 is 52,505 hectares; the land use demand for the period 2031 - 2050 is 21,124 hectares.
