Issuance of Passports with a Validity Period Not Exceeding One Year for Citizens

This is the content stipulated in Circular 29/2016/TT-BCA guiding the issuance, amendment, and supplementation of ordinary passports domestically for Vietnamese citizens (CDVN). Accordingly:

- Vietnamese citizens (CDVN) abroad returning to the country with passports issued by Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, who need to be issued passports but do not meet the conditions for passport reissuance, shall be considered for issuance of passports with a validity not exceeding 01 year to return abroad;- In cases where a person has not yet exited the country, if the Minister of Public Security decides to allow the exit, the passport validity shall be determined by the Minister of Public Security.

Additionally, other regulations regarding passport validity are as follows:

- 10 years for citizens aged 14 years and older, except for the two cases mentioned above;- 05 years for children aged from 09 to under 14 years old (the age not eligible for joint passports with parents) and passports issued jointly for Vietnamese citizens (CDVN) and children under 09 years old.

Circular 29/2016/TT-BCA is effective from August 20, 2016, replacing Circular 27/2007/TT-BCA, Article 1 of Circular 07/2013/TT-BCA.
