On March 12, 2018, the Director-General of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism signed Decision No. 92/QD-TCDL, promulgating the structure and content of the examination for tourism administration and tour guiding operations.

The structure of the domestic tour guide professional examination consists of 02 parts: Theory (multiple choice + essay) and Practice (practical exam). Specifically:

- Multiple choice exam: Includes 60 questions (75 minutes) on basic industry knowledge, specialized knowledge, and professional skills.- Essay exam: Includes at least 02 questions (75 minutes) on specialized knowledge and professional skills.- Practical exam: 20 minutes, consisting of 02 parts:- Professional tour guide practice: Introducing natural heritage, cultural heritage, tourist areas, tourist spots, or other specialized topics (regarding culture, religion, nature, etc.);- Answering situational questions: Solving problems arising during the tourist guiding process.
