Conditions Permitting Discharge for Patients Undergoing Radiation Therapy
Duy Thịnh

The Ministry of Science and Technology has just issued Circular 13/2018/TT-BKHCN amending and supplementing Joint Circular 13/2014/TTLT-BKHCN-BYT on regulations ensuring radiation safety in healthcare.

The patient undergoing radioactive treatment with I-131 can be discharged when the level of remaining radioactive activity in the patient's body does not exceed 1100 MBq.

When the patient is discharged, the attending physician must directly provide counseling and written instructions to the patient regarding radiation safety requirements for relatives, colleagues, and the community.

Additionally, this Circular stipulates that healthcare facilities are not permitted to use individuals under the age of 18 to operate radiation equipment, work with radioactive sources, care for patients with radioactive isotopes, or work in areas with potential radiation exposure risks.

More details can be found in Circular 13/2018/TT-BKHCN, effective from November 01, 2018.
