On July 30, 2024, the Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs of Vietnam issued Decision 497/QD-UBDT on the Approval of adjustment, addition, and correction of names of extremely disadvantaged districts, communes, and villages in Vietnam; and villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the period 2021 – 2025.
According to Decision 497/QD-UBDT in 2024, the approval to adjust, recognize, and supplement the list of extremely disadvantaged villages as approved in Decision 612/QD-UBDT dated September 16, 2021, by the Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities, has been enacted. To be specific:
- Adjustment of 440 villages in 163 communes that are no longer considered extremely disadvantaged areas due to the merging of their entire area and population or dissolution according to Resolutions or Decisions of the competent authority.

- Addition of 141 villages in 98 communes that fall under extremely disadvantaged areas due to splitting, merging, or new establishment according to Resolutions or Decisions of the competent authority.

- Correction of names of districts, communes, and villages as approved in Decision 612/QD-UBDT

- Approval of 755 villages in 460 communes in the ethnic minority and mountainous areas for the 2021-2025 period

- The implementation of the policies regarding the villages approved for adjustment and supplementation in this Decision shall be conducted in accordance with Resolution 35/2023/UBTVQH15 dated July 12, 2023, of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly. Any additional funding required for implementing social security policies issued by the Central Government, if any, shall be regulated according to Decision 127/QD-TTg dated January 24, 2022, of the Prime Minister of the Government of Vietnam on the principle of targeted support from the central budget to the local budget for implementing social security policies issued by the Central Government for the period 2022-2025.
