Applying Global Safeguard Measures to Monosodium Glutamate

On March 10, 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision 920/QD-BCT regarding the application of global safeguard measures for imported monosodium glutamate products into Vietnam from various countries/regions, with the code: 2922.4220. Accordingly:

- The official safeguard measure (OSM) is applied in the form of an additional import tax on goods at the absolute tax rate as follows:

+ From March 25, 2015 to March 24, 2017: 4,390,999 VND/ton;

+ From March 25, 2017 to March 24, 2018: 3,951,899 VND/ton;

+ From March 25, 2018 to March 24, 2019: 3,556,710 VND/ton;

+ From March 25, 2019 to March 24, 2020: 3,201,039 VND/ton;

+ From March 25, 2020 onwards: 0 VND if the application of safeguard measures is not extended.

- OSM is not applied to developing or underdeveloped countries if their export volume to Vietnam does not exceed 3% of Vietnam's total import volume from all countries/territories. The list of countries exempt from this global safeguard tax is detailed in Appendix 1 of the Notice attached to the decision.

- OSM is applied for 04 years from the effective date of the decision to apply OSM if not extended.

Decision 920/QD-BCT is effective from March 25, 2016.
