5 Steps to Evaluate Dredged Material for Marine Disposal

Circular 28/2019/TT-BTNMT stipulating the techniques for assessing dredged material and identifying the areas for dumping dredged material in Vietnamese sea areas was issued on December 31, 2019.

The evaluation of dredged material for ocean disposal shall be carried out according to the following steps:

- Step 1: Collect, investigate information, documents, and data related to the evaluation of dredged material;- Step 2: Take samples of dredged material;- Step 3: Develop and implement a sampling analysis plan;- Step 4: Analyze and test dredged material:

- Assess the characteristics of composition, physical properties of dredged material, the content of pollutants in the dredged material;- Evaluate the sedimentation potential, siltation, and bioavailability of pollutants in the dredged material;- Assess the toxicity of pollutants in the dredged material;- Evaluate the bioaccumulation potential of pollutants in the dredged material.

- Step 5: Summarize the evaluation results of the dredged material.
