Vietnam: Adjustment of the curriculum content for lower secondary and upper secondary education from the academic year 2020-2021

From the academic year 2020 – 2021, to ensure the implementation of the curriculum under the complicated development of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam provides guidance to adjust the teaching content of subjects at the lower secondary and upper secondary levels.

According to Official Dispatch 3280/BGDDT-GDTrH dated August 27, 2020, guiding the adjustment of teaching content for lower and upper secondary school levels to effectively continue the implementation of the current general education program aimed at developing students' qualities and competencies and ensuring the implementation of the program in the context of the complex developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Education and Training provides guidance on adjusting the teaching content for subjects at lower and upper secondary school levels (according to textbooks from the Vietnam Education Publishing House) as follows:

First, adjust the teaching content for lower and upper secondary school levels for the following subjects:

Mathematics Physics
Chemistry Biology
Informatics Technology
Literature History
Geography Civic Education

Note: Detailed adjustments for each subject are attached to the respective subject links above.

Particularly, there will be no assessments for content that is guided as: Not Taught; Additional Reading; Not Done; Not Implemented; Not Required; Encouraging Self-reading; Encouraging Self-study; Encouraging Self-work; Encouraging Self-implementation.

Second, for other subjects and educational activities, continue to follow the guidance in Official Dispatch 5842/BGDDT-VP dated September 1, 2011, regarding the adjustment of teaching content for general education.

Third, for subjects following the advanced program at upper secondary school level and classes under the new school model, secondary educational institutions should actively adjust the teaching content appropriately based on the above guidance.

General schools and teachers need to note and adjust the teaching content appropriately from the school year 2020-2021.
