Here are the notable contents stipulated in Official Dispatch 3529/BNN-VP in 2020 on the importation of live pigs from other countries into Vietnam, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on May 27, 2020.

To be specific, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic still developing complicatedly worldwide, following the direction of the Prime Minister the Government of Vietnam regarding pork price stabilization in Notification 178/TB-KL and considering Official Dispatch 807/TY-HTQT dated May 22, 2020, of the Department of Animal Health regarding the import of live pigs from foreign countries into Vietnam, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has the following opinions:
- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development agrees with the plan for the Department of Animal Health to conduct a risk analysis for the import of live pigs based on the dossier provided by exporting countries.
- Upon completion of the dossier evaluation, the Department of Animal Health will cooperate with importing enterprises to contact and organize online meetings with the competent authority of the exporting country to discuss obstacles, gather missing information to complete the import risk analysis process, agree on animal health conditions, and form an export quarantine certificate.
- Importing enterprises must comply with the current legal provisions regarding import quarantine, ensure epidemic safety for domestic livestock and implement a 30-day quarantine.
In Notification 178/TB-VPCP 2020, the Prime Minister's conclusions on price management at the Q1 meeting clearly states: “The Prime Minister requests that, to effectively control pork prices in the near future, based on respecting market principles and legal regulations, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade simultaneously implement solutions to soon bring the price of live pigs down to around 60,000 VND/kg, striving for this to be achieved by late April to early May while ensuring reasonable benefits.”
After the COVID-19 pandemic is controlled, import quarantine for live pigs from other countries into Vietnam will be carried out in accordance with current regulations and procedures.
