In the near future, no criticism of students in front of the class or school!

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, accompanied by the Charter for Secondary Schools, High Schools, and Schools with Multiple Levels of Education. A noteworthy point in this Charter is the abolition of the disciplinary form of publicly criticizing students in front of the school or class.

According to Article 38 of the Charter of Secondary Schools, High Schools, and Schools with Multiple Levels, issued with Circular 32/2020/TT-BGDDT, it is stipulated that even if students commit mistakes in the process of learning and training, teachers are not allowed to criticize students in front of the class or school. Instead, students will be educated or disciplined in the following ways:

- Remind, support, and help directly to correct the student's mistakes;- Reprimand, inform the parents to coordinate in supporting the student to correct mistakes;- Temporary suspension from school with a set time and implementation of other educational measures as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Currently, according to Circular 12/2011/TT-BGDDT, students who commit mistakes during the learning and training process can be advised or disciplined in the following forms: Criticism in front of the class or school; Reprimand and inform the family; Warning recorded in the school record; Temporary expulsion from school.

The removal of this form of discipline arises from the reality that students feel pressured and embarrassed in front of peers when criticized in the class, leading to negative behaviors such as resentment towards teachers, alienation from classmates, dropping out of school, etc. In peak cases, these students are at risk of being bullied, potentially leading to depression and having a lasting negative psychological impact.

Furthermore, abolishing the disciplinary form of "Criticism in front of the class or school" and adding the form of direct reminder, support, and help for the students will contribute to making students more intimate with teachers and the school. Consequently, they will promptly improve, correct their mistakes, and become more diligent and obedient.
