Which Types of Ships are Required to be Equipped with Radar?

Recently, the Ministry of Transport issued Circular 39/2018/TT-BGTVT promulgating the National Technical Regulation on the Classification and Construction of Inland Waterway Vessels - Second Amendment:2018 QCVN 72:2013/BGTVT.

According to the provisions of Circular 39, the following vessels must be equipped with radar:

- High-speed passenger vessels of VR-SB class (excluding vessels operating on dedicated routes from shore to island or between islands with a route distance of no more than 15 km);- Mechanically propelled vessels of VR-SB class with a gross tonnage (GT) ≥ 300 (excluding vessels operating on dedicated routes from shore to island or between islands with a route distance of no more than 15 km);- High-speed passenger vessels operating in regions SI or SII with a vessel length L ≥ 25 m.

Note: Tourist overnight stay vessels, floating restaurants, and floating hotels must be equipped with a command broadcasting device.
