This is a notable content mentioned in Circular No. 08/2013/TT-BTNMT issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Vietnam, prescribing procedures for issuance and revocation of certificate of biosafety of genetically modified plants.
Groups of genetically modified plants eligible for certificate of biosafety are specified in Article 3 of Circular No. 08/2013/TT-BTNMT of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Vietnam, specifically as follows:
- Genetically modified plants carrying single transformation events created as a result of transferring one or multiple genes dictating a desirable characteristic by gene delivery technology.
- Genetically modified plants carrying stacked transformation event created as a result of:
+ Delivering genes dictating multiple desirable characteristics simultaneously to plants that have not undergone genetic modification by gene delivery technology; or
+ Delivering gene or genes dictating one or multiple desirable characteristics to a genetically modified plant.
Notably, genetically modified plants that are created as a result of cross-breeding two or more cultivars carrying transformation events and issued with certificates of biosafety are not regulated by Circular No. 08/2013/TT-BTNMT.
Procedures for issuance, revocation of certificate of biosafety are specified as follows:
- Application for issuance of certificate of biosafety shall conform to Article 5 hereof.
- Receipt, inspection of application, and issuance of certificate of biosafety shall conform to Articles 6 through 8 hereof.
- Revocation of issuance of certificate of biosafety shall conform to Article 9 hereof.
