Vietnam: Contents on technical editing of state administrative maps (Illustrative Image)

Under Article 15 of Circular 47/2014/TT-BTNMT on the technical editing of state administrative maps in Vietnam is specified as follows:

- Technical editing is developed on the basis of studying details and technical requirements under approved science editing.

- Technical editing consists of:

+ Document collection and evaluation;

+ Development of detail editing plan;

+ Design of symbol library and layering of contents.

Document collection and evaluation are specified as follows:

- Collect documents in accordance with approved science editing outline.

- Evaluate appropriate solutions in accordance with science editing outline.

The development of a detail editing plan in Vietnam is specified as follows:

- Detail editing plan serves to guide editing of contents and presentation of each map on the basis of regulations of science editing outline.

- Detail editing plan consists of:

+ Solutions for handling, using existing documents;

+ Identification of missing documents or information that need to be collected and additional on-site inspection;

+ Realization of displayed details appropriate to geographical characteristics of each area.

Design of symbol library and layering of contents in Vietnam is specified as follows:

- Design of symbol library must meet requirements below:

+ Symbols are designed during editing phase of map creation;

+ Symbols must adhere to samples under Appendices 2, 3, 6, and 7 attached hereto;

+ In respect of details that are not specified under Appendices 2, 3, 6, and 7 attached hereto, design additional symbols. Additionally designed symbols must meet aesthetic and consistency requirements according to Appendices 2, 3, 6, and 7 attached hereto.

- Design of symbol library, layering of contents, storage folders must be adequate, logical, and convenient in editing, data searching, and suitable for map creation editing.

- Symbol library and layering of contents for development of digital author copies of governmental administrative maps must conform to technical standards promulgated by competent authority. This technical standard is encouraged for application to other administrative maps.
