Provisions on Payment for Certain Health Insurance Medicines

The Ministry of Health has just issued Circular 30/2018/TT-BYT on October 30, 2018, specifying regulations on payment for certain health insurance drugs.

To be specific:

- Other chemical isomers or salts of active ingredients (including both single-component and multi-component formulations, except for vitamins and minerals) listed in the Drug List shall be covered by the health insurance fund if they have the same indications as the chemical form or the drug name listed in the Drug List.- Drugs classified under this group which are used to treat diseases of other groups shall be covered by the health insurance fund if they have appropriate indications.- Certain drugs with conditions and percentage of the reimbursement list shall be covered by the health insurance fund in accordance with legal regulations.- In the case where, as per professional indications, the patient only uses a portion of the smallest packaging unit and the remaining amount of the drug cannot be used, the health insurance fund shall cover the entire amount based on the price of the smallest packaging unit.- Drugs marked with a (*) symbol must undergo a consultation before use, except in emergencies. For antibiotics marked with a (*) symbol, the health insurance fund shall cover the cost when the prescription process follows the consultation procedure as per the Guidelines for antibiotic use management in hospitals by the Ministry of Health.
