Family Behavior Criteria Set according to the law in Vietnam: Respect - Equality - Love - Sharing

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam issued Decision No. 4843/QD-BVHTTDL to pilot the "Family Behavior Criteria Set" in order to establish a system of ethical and cultural values standards in each Vietnamese family, enhance the awareness and responsibility of each member, thereby preventing the deterioration of ethics in both family and society.

Common Criteria Respect: Properly assess, value each other’s honor, dignity, and interests.
Equality: Have equal obligations and rights in all aspects of family life.
Love: Have strong, affectionate ties, caring for each other.
Sharing: Cultivate emotions together, share joys and sorrows, difficulties, and hardships.
Specific Criteria Applicable Subjects Detailed Behavior Criteria
Spouses: Loyalty; Affection Spouses recognized by law according to the provisions of the Law on Marriage and Family 2014. - Spouses maintain consistent affection, without change;
- Care for each other; share responsibility in raising children, doing household chores, and contributing financially to the family;
- Listen, discuss common issues together, and be amicable with each other.
Parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren: Exemplarity; Affection - Parents include: biological parents, adoptive parents, stepfathers, stepmothers, paternal and maternal in-laws;
- Grandparents include: paternal grandparents, maternal grandparents.
- Parents and grandparents set a good example for children and grandchildren in behavior, actions, and words;
- Care for and look after children and grandchildren when they are young; pass on traditional values and life experiences to children and grandchildren; educate and encourage them to maintain family traditions; create strong, affectionate bonds.
Children with parents, grandchildren with grandparents: Filial piety; Respect - Children include: biological children, adopted children, stepchildren of wife or husband, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law.
- Grandchildren include: paternal grandchildren, maternal grandchildren.
- Children and grandchildren express respect, gratitude, and help parents and grandparents through words, gestures, and actions;
- Visit, care for, comfort, and support parents and grandparents when they are ill or elderly.
Siblings: Harmony; Sharing - Siblings with common parents; siblings with the same father but different mothers; siblings with the same mother but different fathers.
- Brother-in-law, sister-in-law of those with common parents or shared father/mother.
- Siblings respect each other, advise each other on good and proper things.
- Older siblings be tolerant of younger siblings, while younger siblings respect older siblings;
- Share emotions or material possessions during joys and sorrows, help each other during difficulties and hardships.
