06 Criteria for Developing the Standards of General Education Subject Programs

The Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular 14/2017/TT-BGDDT promulgating the Regulations on standards, procedures for developing, and modifying general education curricula.

According to Circular 14, to meet the standards of the general education subject program, the following criteria must be met:

- Criterion 1: The program content must comply with legal regulations; must not contain social prejudices regarding gender, ethnicity, religion, profession, status;- Criterion 2: The objectives of the subject program must be specified in accordance with the objectives of the general education program, suitable for the characteristics of the subject; must specify the requirements for essential qualities and core competencies, as well as the subject-specific competencies students need to achieve by the end of each educational level;- Criterion 3: The knowledge and skills requirements of the subject program must reflect the requirements for the essential qualities and core competencies of students at each educational level; must create opportunities to develop qualities and subject-specific competencies; must be the basis for assessing students' educational outcomes;- Criterion 4: The mandatory educational content, the teaching plan for each educational level, and the orientation for each grade must meet the objectives of the subject program; must ensure it is fundamental, modern, practical, and suitable for the age, level, and career orientation of students;- Criterion 5: The teaching methods, forms of organization, ways of assessing students' knowledge, skills, and competencies, and teaching facilities must be directed, explained, guided, and illustrated to support teaching and learning activities oriented towards forming and developing students' qualities and competencies;- Criterion 6: Major terms must be explained; the format and technical presentation must comply with current regulations.
