What is regular refresher training for teachers in Vietnam?

Based on Section 2 of the regular refresher training Program for teachers of general education institutions issued by the Minister of Education and Training attached to Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the applicable subjects are regulated as follows:

II. Training Subjects

The regular refresher training program for teachers of general education institutions applies to teachers currently teaching at primary schools, lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools, general education schools with multiple levels, specialized schools, ethnic boarding schools, and semi-boarding ethnic schools (hereinafter collectively referred to as general education institutions).

The subjects that the regular refresher training program for teachers of general education institutions targets include:

- Teachers currently teaching at primary schools;

- Teachers currently teaching at lower secondary schools;

- Teachers currently teaching at upper secondary schools, general education schools with multiple levels;

- Teachers currently teaching at specialized schools;

- Teachers currently teaching at ethnic boarding schools, semi-boarding ethnic schools.

Additionally, the aim of the regular refresher training program for teachers of general education institutions is to provide training based on job position requirements;

Training in compulsory annual subject knowledge and skills for teachers of general education institutions;

It serves as the basis for managing, directing, organizing, and compiling materials for training, self-training to enhance the qualities, professional capacity, and skills of teachers of general education institutions, meeting the job position requirements, and improving the responsiveness of teachers of general education institutions to the demands of general education development and the standards of the teaching profession. What are the required modules to be chosen by teachers in each regular refresher training program in Vietnam?

Based on Section 4 of the regular refresher training Program for teachers of general education institutions issued by the Minister of Education and Training attached to Circular 17/2019/TT-BGDDT, the training duration is regulated as follows:

V. IMPLEMENTATION GUIDANCE FOR THE PROGRAM

2. Training duration:

a) Each teacher of general education institutions implementing the regular refresher training program shall ensure the following specific training duration:

- Training Program 01: Approximately 01 week per school year (about 40 sessions per school year);

- Training Program 02: Approximately 01 week per school year (about 40 sessions per school year);

- Training Program 03: 01 week per school year (40 sessions per school year);

b) Based on task requirements and local education plans for each school year, educational management levels can adjust the duration of Training Program 01 and Training Program 02 as appropriate but do not change the duration of Training Program 03 for each teacher of general education institutions (ensuring a duration of 120 sessions per year);

c) Based on Training Program 03, teachers of general education institutions can select the necessary modules suitable for the development needs of their personal qualities and professional competence each year, ensuring the specified duration.

Therefore, each teacher of general education institutions participating in training must choose for themselves 03 modules from the modules prescribed by the regular teacher training program.

How many types of regular refresher training are there for teachers in Vietnam?

The types of regular refresher training for teachers in preschool education institutions are regulated in Clause 2, Article 6 of the Regulation on regular refresher training for teachers, management staff of preschool education institutions, general education institutions, and teachers of continuing education centers issued together with Circular 19/2019/TT-BGDDT as follows:

(1) Centralized: Implement centralized training; guide teachers and management staff in self-study, practice, systematize knowledge, answer queries, guide the content of regular refresher training meeting the needs of teachers and management staff in regular refresher training learning; create conditions for teachers and management staff to exchange, share, discuss professional matters, and practice skills training.

The duration and number of teachers and management staff participating in centralized training shall be implemented based on management decentralization but must ensure the requirements regarding purpose, required achievements, content, methods, and duration of training as stipulated in the regular refresher training program and the regulations in this Regulation.

(2) Distance: Implement distance training, enhance the application of information technology in training activities, online training for teachers and management staff, ensuring the requirements regarding purpose, required achievements, content, methods, and duration of training as stipulated in the regular refresher training program and the regulations in this Regulation;

(3) Semi-centralized: Combine centralized training and distance training as prescribed in point a, point b of this Clause, ensuring the effectiveness and requirements of regular teacher and management staff training.

Therefore, there are three types of regular refresher training for teachers: Centralized; Distance; Semi-centralized.
