What is Amu? How many grams is 1 Amu?
Amu is the atomic mass unit, a unit for measuring the mass of the smallest particles in an atom, including protons, neutrons, and electrons. Amu is approximately equal to the mass of one proton or one neutron.
In chemistry, one atomic mass unit or amu is a physical constant equal to one twelfth of the mass of an unbound carbon-12 atom.
1 u = 1 Da = 1 amu (in modern usage) = 1 g/mol
Regarding the question of how many grams are in 1 amu, 1 amu is equal to one-twelfth of the mass of a carbon-12 isotope atom. The mass of one carbon-12 isotope atom is 1/12 * 1.9926×10^−23g, leading to the conclusion that 1 amu = 0.16605×10^−23g.

What are requirements to be met in the lesson on atomic structure for Grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?
Based on the General Education Curriculum for the Chemistry subject issued with Circular 32/2018/TT-BGDDT, the requirements to be achieved in the atomic structure lesson in Grade 10 Chemistry are as follows:
Components of the Atom | - Explain the components of an atom (an atom is extremely small; an atom consists of two parts: the nucleus and the electron shell; the nucleus is formed by protons (p) and neutrons (n); the shell is formed by electrons (e); charge and mass of each particle type). - Compare the mass of an electron with a proton and a neutron, the size of the nucleus with the size of the atom. |
Chemical Elements | - Explain the concept of a chemical element, atomic number, and atomic symbol. - Define the concepts of isotope, atomic mass. - Calculate the average atomic mass (in amu) based on the atomic mass and the percentage of atoms of the isotopes as provided by the mass spectrometry data. |
Electron Shell Structure of Atom | - Explain and compare Rutherford-Bohr's model with the modern model describing the movement of electrons in the atom. - Define the concept of atomic orbital (AO), describe the shape of AOs (s, p), the number of electrons in 1 AO. - Explain the concept of shell, subshell, and the relationship between the number of subshells in a shell. Relate the number of AOs in a subshell, in a shell. - Write the electron configuration of an atom according to the shell, subshell, and orbital notation method when the atomic number Z of the first 20 elements in the periodic table is known. - Predict the basic chemical properties (metallic or non-metallic nature) of the corresponding element based on the characteristics of the outermost electron configuration of the atom. |
What are regulations on evaluation of grade 10 Chemistry in Vietnam?
Based on Article 5 of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT:
Evaluation Methods
- Evaluation by comments:
a) Teachers use oral or written comments to assess students' performance in training and studying; comment on the students' progress, prominent strengths, and major limitations during their training and study; assess the outcomes of students' training and learning.
b) Students use oral or written methods to self-assess their performance in training and studying, their progress, prominent strengths, and major limitations.
c) Parents, organizations, and individuals involved in the education process of students provide feedback on students' performance in training and studying.
d) Evaluation by comments on students' training and learning results is used in regular and periodic evaluations through various forms of testing, assessment appropriate to the specifics of the subject.
- Evaluation by scores:
a) Teachers use numerical scores to assess the results of students' training and studying.
b) Evaluation by scores is used in regular and periodic evaluations through various forms of testing, assessment appropriate to the specifics of the subject.
- Evaluation methods for subjects:
a) Evaluation by comments for subjects: Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Vocational Orientation; learning outcomes for these subjects are evaluated by comments in one of two levels: Pass, Not Pass.
b) Evaluation by comments combined with scores for subjects in the General Education Curriculum, except for the subjects listed in point a of this clause; learning outcomes for these subjects are evaluated by scores on a 10-point scale. If another scale is used, it must be converted to the 10-point scale. Scores are integers or decimals rounded to the nearest tenth.
Excluding the subjects Physical Education, Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Local Education Content, Experiential Activities, Vocational Orientation, learning outcomes for other subjects are evaluated by comments combined with scores.
Hence, Grade 10 Chemistry is evaluated by a combination of comments and scores.
