According to the provisions of Article 12 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities and rights of students participating in scientific research are as follows:
- Responsibilities of students:
+ Conduct scientific research honestly and seriously;
+ Take responsibility for conducting scientific research topics for students; participate in conferences, scientific seminars, forums, and other scientific and technological activities within higher education institutions;
+ Comply with the provisions of the law on intellectual property, scientific and technological activities, and other current legal regulations.
- Rights of students:
+ Propose and register to conduct scientific research topics;
+ Be facilitated to use the available facilities and equipment of the higher education institutions to conduct research activities;
+ Receive financial support for scientific research according to the regulations of the higher education institutions;
+ Publish and receive support to publish research results in scientific journals, proceedings, and other scientific and technological publications domestically and internationally as per regulations;
+ Receive support to register intellectual property rights for the research results according to current regulations;
+ Be considered for preferential academic and training points; priority consideration for scholarships and commendation titles and awards as per the regulations of the higher education institutions;
+ Enjoy other benefits as prescribed.

What are the rights and responsibilities of student research supervisors in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Article 11 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities and rights of student research supervisors are as follows:
- Supervisors are responsible for participating in guiding students in scientific research, taking responsibility for the content of the assigned research topics, fully complying with the research ethics principles and current regulations.
- Supervisors have their research hours counted, receive remuneration, and other benefits as prescribed by the higher education institutions after completing the guidance of student scientific research.
- Supervisors of student scientific research with excellent results, winning scientific and technological awards domestically and internationally, or producing research outcomes that are applied and deployed for economic-social effectiveness, are prioritized for selection in commendation titles at various levels and other forms of rewards.
What are the objectives of student scientific research activities?
According to the provisions of Article 2 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, the objectives of student scientific research activities are:
- Form and develop scientific research capacity for students; contribute to discovering and nurturing talented young scientists, meeting the requirements of advanced human resource training.
- Create a favorable environment to support students’ participation in scientific research activities, forming ideas, and startup projects, thereby creating job opportunities for students after graduation.
What responsibilities do higher education institutions have in student scientific research activities in Vietnam?
According to the provisions of Article 10 of Circular 26/2021/TT-BGDDT, the responsibilities of higher education institutions in student scientific research activities are as follows:
- Issuing documents regulating the organization and implementation of student scientific research activities, including:
+ The process of proposing, reviewing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and concluding student scientific research topics;
+ Stipulating rewards for students, student groups, and supervisors with outstanding achievements in scientific research; honoring organizations and individuals with significant contributions to student scientific research activities;
+ Stipulating forms of handling for students and supervisors violating regulations on student scientific research activities according to current regulations;
+ Clearly defining the functions and duties of units, organizations, and individuals in relation to student scientific research activities; the obligations and benefits of students, student research supervisors, and related organizations and individuals;
+ Stipulating other contents related to student scientific research activities.
- Issuing and implementing annual and long-term plans for student scientific research activities ensuring alignment with the objectives, orientations of the higher education institution and current regulations.
- Issuing regulations on funding for student scientific research activities in the financial regulations of the higher education institution ensuring compliance with current regulations.
